  40 Athletes Compete For Honours At 1st Northern Nigeria Squash Tournament By Niyi Busari No fewer than 40 athletes participated in the ongoing 1st Norther Nigeria Squash Tournament at the squash hall, Package B, MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja, BSNSports.com.ng reports. The three-day event which started on Friday and ends on Sunday will see athlete who comes first smilies to bank to cash One hundred thousand while runners-up get Fifty thousand naira with 3rd to eighth winners also have cash prizes to go home with. According to Mr Sikiru Isah, one of the organiser, who spoke with the media men at the venue, the championship is designed for athletes to keep fit ahead of the National Sports Festival and other competition within and outside the country. He added that Covid 19 which affected all sporting activities in the world was responsible for the athletes' rustiness. He stated that the Championship in the next edition will be a national event. "Over 40 athletes, from Niger, Kogi, Plateau, FCT, Nigeria Immigration and Police will compete in the maiden competition. The event is purposely organized for squash athletes in the northern Nigeria who have not been in action for more than one year to keep fit ahead of the National Sports Festival and other competitions." "We are planning to make it a national event in the second edition and also international competition in the nearest future." He concluded.
