40 Years Celebration: ANOCA To Decorates African Olympics Gold Medallists In Abuja By Niyi Busari Vice President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinabjo will lead other dignitaries to celebrate the forty years of existence of Association of National Olympics Committee of Africa (ANOCA). African Gold Medallists at the just-concluded Tokyo Olympics will be decorated at the venue where the celebration will take place. Speaking to press at the Headquarters in Abuja, President of Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), Eng Habu Gumel said African athletes who won gold medals at the just concluded Olympics Games in Tokyo will also be celebrated. "The Association of National Olympic Committee of Africa, ANOCA, is celebrating four decades of powering Africa through sports and spreading the Olympic spirit. The journey started with the formation of ANOCA in Lomé, Togo 40 years ago and, still waxing stronger with its 54 member associations." He added, "ANOCA has also grown to have a home in Abuja, and the secretariat represents our commitment to support African sportsmen and women. Abuja is now the Olympic capital of Africa. He revealed that the event hold at the Transcorp Hilton hotel, Abuja "The 40th-anniversary celebration will hold at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja on, September 28, 2021. It will have the presence of top dignitaries in governance and sports. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo GCON is the chief host and will give the Keynote address while, the Sports Minister, Chief Sunday Dare, will deliver his speech as the host Minister of Youth and Sports Development. His Excellency, Mr Mustapha Berraf, the ANOCA President and the Executive Board members, will also lead other dignitaries, which includes African ministers of sports during the celebration. Furthermore, ANOCA will also give awards to celebrate the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games African Medallists and the ANOCA Order of merit award. The awardees are: Medallists that will be decorated are: Ahmed Ayoub Hafnaoui – 400m free style – Tunisian, Eliud Kipchoge – Marathon – Kenyan, Emmanuel Korir – 800m – Kenyan, Faith Chepngetich – Kipyegon – 1500m – Kenyan, Peres Jepchichir – Marathon – Kenyan, Joshua Kiprui Cheptegei – 5000m – Ugandan, Peruth Chemutai – 3000m – Ugandan, Fatjana Shoenmaker – 200m Breaststroke – South African, Feryal Abdelaziz – Karate – Egyptian, Selemon Barega – 10000m – Ethiopian, Soufiane El Bakkali – 3000m – Moroccon, And Nigeria Silver Medallist, Blessing Oborududu – Freestyle wrestling – Nigeria will be also be celebrated. African sports ministers and other distinguished sports personalities who displayed the Olympic spirit over the years will also be honoured.
