550 Golfers From 5 Countries To Participate In 2022 Captain's Invitational Tournament

Not fewer than 550 golfers have registered to participate in the 2022 Captain Invitational Golf Tournament at the IBB Golf Club and Country, Abuja, BSNSports.com.ng can report.


Speaking at the Press Conference on Wednesday, Chairman Planning Committee, Bayo Ojo (SAN) who was represented by the Vice-chairman, Banjo Obaleye said the tournament which tees-off on Thursday will climax on Saturday with 36 professionals participating in the tourney.


"The 2022 Captain Cup Golf Tournament will tee-off tomorrow (Thursday) and will end on Saturday. Professional golfers from five different countries have arrived to participate in the three-day golf tournament. The professional golfers from Uganda, Botswana, Kenya and Ghana will compete with their Nigerian counterparts for the Two Million prize money.


According to the programme, the event starts at 6:30am Thursday morning with men Category in handicap 19-28 while the ladies Category start with handicap 19-26.


Handicap 13-18 will take the Centre stage on Friday from 6:30 am while on the final day, the championship tee-off with handicap 0-12 in men Category while the Ladies Category tee-off from 0-18.


"Arguably the biggest golf tournament in the history of the IBB Golf Club and Country because this is the first time the competition will be having the number of professionals participating with such handsome prize money. We Will accomodate and feed Over 500 golfers from 0-36 handicap." Banjo Obaleye added.


Also speaking, Julius Fadairo, the Competition Secretary said that the tournament is all-inclusive tourney made special to send off the Captain who has completed his one year in office. He added that the golf course will be used such that 250 golfers can play in a day.

"It is captain's week, a time set aside to celebrate the outgoing captain with an all-inclusive tournament. Depending on category which determine the time different golfers will be in the course, it is programmed such that about 250 golfers will play per day.


Lady Captain Mary-Rose Obioha thanked the Planning Committee for putting up such all inclusive competition and making the last one year eventful.

"I want to thank the Planning Committee for what They did so far. The last one year has been filled with different events. This is the first time the members of the club played competitions throughout the year."
