5th Mailafia Peace And Unity Cup Opener Ends In Draw By Niyi Busari The 5th Mailafia Peace and Unity Cup opener played on Saturday, October 23 between Chokali Babes and FC Lafia Stars ended in 1-1 draw. The competition which is organised by DSP Mailafia Yakubu will be played at the Government Secondary School field, Daddere, Lafia Nasarawa State. Mohammed Morafa had in the first half put the two-time champions, Chokali ahead before Hassan scored the leveller for FC Lafia Stars in the second half. While speaking on the reasons he organised the tournament, Yakubu Mailafia said "football is a game that is loved and easy to play anywhere in the world. In Nigeria, it unites everyone. And as the name of the competition sounds, we need Unity and Peace in Nigeria and that's why we organised this competition to bring people together watching football that brings joy and happiness to them. The competition has come to stay and what we need now is to improve the standard and welfare package for the participants." There will be prizes to be won by teams and exceptional individual players. There are prizes for best Coach, Goalkeeper, highest goal scorer while the prizes for the champions, the runners-up will be announced when the competition reaches the Semifinal stage. 16 teams participated in the fifth edition. The teams are grouped in four with four clubs in each group. Invited guests of honour who graced the occasion includes, NFF Board Member, Ahmed Yusuf 'Fresh' - who did the official kick off, NLO Chairman, Mohammed Alkali, President of Nigeria Coaches Association, Ladan Bosso, Chairman, Nasarawa United, Barrister Isaac Danladi, Assistant Commissioner of Police Nasarawa State, Patrick and hosts of others.
