ACA To Register Nigerian Clubs, Others Soon

The newly established African Club Association (ACA) has finalized arrangements to begin registering football clubs across the continent, including those in Nigeria, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

According to an update from the body, the initiative is aimed at creating a comprehensive database of all clubs in Africa.

ACA believes the step is crucial to improving transparency, accountability, and efficiency in the management of club football, particularly with the financial reforms it plans to introduce.

Officials of the ACA revealed that the registration exercise will be rolled out in phases, with national federations expected to collaborate closely to provide accurate information about their affiliated clubs.

“The official registration of African clubs is an important foundation for implementing modern governance standards and financial regulations,” an ACA spokesperson said.

 “It will help us monitor compliance, strengthen club licensing, and enhance development programmes across the continent.”

The move is also expected to support the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) push for better financial discipline and sustainability among clubs participating in continental competitions such as the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.

Nigerian clubs, including traditional heavyweights like Enyimba International, Rivers United, Rangers International, and Shooting Stars, are among those set to benefit from the exercise, as it could open doors to improved funding structures, capacity-building initiatives, and data-driven decision-making.

The ACA, which was launched earlier this year with the backing of CAF, has been tasked with advocating for the interests of clubs, driving reforms in administration, and promoting professional standards within African football.

With the registration process expected to commence before the end of the year, stakeholders across the continent have been urged to prepare the necessary documentation and align with the new guidelines.
