AFC Toronto Confirms Okoronkwo Injury Setback
Sampson Adedeji
Canadian club AFC Toronto have confirmed that Nigerian forward Esther Okoronkwo will be sidelined for about six weeks after suffering a meniscus injury, BSNSports.com.ng reports
The injury occurred during AFC Toronto’s clash against Halifax, with medical examinations confirming damage to the knee.
The development is a major setback for both the player and the club, considering Okoronkwo’s impressive performances this season.
However, there is positive news for Nigeria as the striker is expected to recover in time before the commencement of the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations scheduled for July.
Okoronkwo has remained one of the key players for the Nigeria women's national football team in recent outings and her expected return before the continental tournament will come as a huge relief to the Super Falcons coaching crew.
