AFCON 2023 Qualifier: Guinea Bissau To Host Super Eagles in Morocco
The Football Federation of Guinea-Bissau (FFGB) has officially secured Morocco as the host venue for the 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Nigeria.
The Matchday 3 and 4 double-header between the Super Eagles and the Djurtus are due in March.
Nigeria will host the first leg fixture on March 23 at the CAF/FIFA-approved MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja, while the Guineans will welcome Jose Peserio and his star-studded Super Eagles in the return leg in Morocco.
The development came after the Football Federation of Guinea-Bissau failed to have its stadium approved for the qualifier after the expiration of the February 7 deadline given by the CAF.
According to a tweet posted on the social blogging site Twitter on Wednesday by Moroccan Sports Journalist Izem Anass on his verified handle which read: The Moroccan FA has agreed to host the following 2023 AFCON 3rd & 4th qualifiers because those countries have no approved stadiums by CAF.
The matches that will be hosted in Morocco are those involving Guinea-Bissau vs Nigeria, Mali vs Gambia and Burkina Faso vs Togo.
The Super Eagles lead Group A of the 2023 AFCON with six points from two matches after recording victories against Sierra Leone and Sao Tome.
Guinea-Bissau is placed second behind Nigeria with 4 points after sharing the spoils with Sierra Leone and a win against Sao Tome.
