AFCON 2023 Qualifier: Sierra Leone Star Kei Kamara Retire From International Football

Ahead of the 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifiers, Leone Stars of Sierra Leone forward Kei Kamara has announced his retirement from international, BSNsports.com.ng gathered.

Kamara made his debut for Sierra Leone in 2008 and was dropped from the national team set-up for disciplinary reasons in August 2019.

He was recalled later that month and he retired from international duty in November 2019, blaming in part new manager Sellas Tetteh.

Kamara later returned to the national team set-up and on 12 June 2021 Kamara scored the only goal for Sierra Leone in a victory against Benin which qualified Sierra Leone for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, their first since 1996

Kamara was in action for Sierra Leone against Nigeria's Super Eagles in the 2021 AFCON qualifier and was on target when they came back from a 4-0 down to level up at 4-4 in Nigeria

The lanky attacker penned an emotional farewell message to the fans and supporters of the national team.

He acknowledged the contribution his national team participation has brought him and his family and further wished the team all the best.

Sierra Leone has been grouped alongside Nigeria, Guinea Bissau and Sao Tome for the 2023 AFCON qualifier.
