AFCON 2023 Qualifiers: Dessers Target Win Against Sierra Leone, Speaks On Why He Left Feyenoord
Sampson Adedeji
Super Eagles striker Cyril Dessers has insisted that victory is not negotiable against the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone in the 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifier, BSNsports.com.ng has gathered.
Following his distinctive performance for Feyenoord in the recently concluded season, Dessers was recalled to the Super Eagles fold for an international friendly against Mexico and Ecuador.
The hard-working attacker did not disappoint as he opened his goal account for the national team with a goal against the North American country.
While speaking to the press, Dessers also opened up on the reason he will not be staying with the Dutch club permanently.
"It's a beautiful season for sure, good outing in the league, played in the final of the UEFA Conference League against Roma and ending up in the Super Eagles is really good.
"It's a special moment and this is a dream for me to finally get the first goal is an amazing feeling.
"The financial situation at Feyenoord is complicated and they need to sell players to buy new players especially when the price is a bit high for them though there is a clause for this moment, and I'm returning to Genk.
"With Super Eagles, automatically you must win every game. In the game against Mexico we played well, especially in the second half and if we can get to that level against Sierra Leone we will win," he said.
Feyenoord dis announce last week that Dessers will be returning to his parent club RKC Genk ahead of the 2022/2023 league season.
