AFCON

The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double-header between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Djurtus of Guinea-Bissau billed to hold in September has been postponed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), BSNSports.com.ng gathered.

The matches will now hold in March 2023.

The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations has already been postponed to January 2024 by CAF.

The continent’s soccer governing body took the decision due to the unfavourable weather conditions during the summer in Cote d’Ivoire.

The biennial competition was originally scheduled to hold in June 2023.

CAF took the decision to postpone the qualifiers to allow the five African teams that will take part in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar to have more time to prepare for the competition.

The teams will now use the September international window to engage in friendlies ahead of the mundial.

The Super Eagles lead Group A of the 2023 AFCON with six points from two matches.

Sierra Leone and Sao Tome are the other teams in their qualifying group.
