The chances of Nigeria and the Benin Republic as the joint hosts for the 2025 and 2027 African Cup of Nations received a big boost on Monday following the withdrawal of Algeria, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

After much inspection and deliberation, the African Soccer ruling body has picked Wednesday 27th of September as the date they will announce the countries that will stage the competition.

Just like Morocco, Senegal, Nigeria Benin, etc, Algeria is one of the countries vying to host the competition but the officials of the country's football made an official announcement about their withdrawal on Monday.

Nigeria and Benin will now have to contend with Morocco, Zambia, Senegal etc. for the hosting right.

The reason for Algeria's withdrawal was not disclosed but the news from the grapevine made it known that Morocco has gotten the nod to host the 2025 edition while Senegal will stage that of 2027
