AFCON 2025: CAF Fines Egypt $5,000 Over Media Obligation Breach

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has imposed a $5,000 fine on the Egyptian national team after neglecting media in their opening match against Zimbabwe at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

According to CAF, the sanction was handed down after Egypt’s players and technical staff that failed to comply with mandatory post-match media duties. 

The entire Egyptian delegation reportedly walked through the mixed zone without engaging journalists or responding to any post-match questions, an action CAF described as a clear violation of its media regulations.

CAF has also issued a formal warning to the seven-time African champions, stressing that stiffer penalties will be enforced should the breach be repeated. 

The continental body specifically cautioned that heavier sanctions would follow if Egypt fail to fulfil their media obligations after their clash with South Africa later today.

The ruling underlines CAF’s continued effort to enforce media access rules at the tournament, which are designed to enhance transparency and promote broader coverage of the Africa Cup of Nations.
