AFCON 2025: CAF Set To Probe Nwabali’s Reactions Against Morocco
Sampson Adedeji
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is set to investigate the conduct of Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali following incidents that occurred during Nigeria’s AFCON 2025 semi-final clash against host nation Morocco, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
During the highly charged encounter, Nwabali was captured on camera making gestures towards sections of the home crowd after key moments in the match.
CAF is understood to view the actions as potentially inappropriate, particularly given the intensity and sensitivity surrounding a knockout fixture involving the host nation.
According to sources close to the organizing body, video footage of the incident is currently being reviewed by CAF’s disciplinary unit to determine whether the goalkeeper breached the tournament’s code of conduct.
While no official charge has been filed yet, CAF is considering possible sanctions depending on the outcome of the review.
These could range from a formal warning to more severe disciplinary measures if the actions are deemed to have incited the crowd or brought the competition into disrepute.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is expected to await CAF’s decision before making any formal response. Nwabali has not publicly commented on the incident.
Further updates are expected as CAF concludes its assessment in the coming days.
