AFCON 2025: Cameroon Knock Out South Africa
Sampson Adedeji
Five-time African champions Cameroon have ended South Africa’s campaign at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco with a 2-1 victory, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Despite history favouring Bafana Bafana going into the encounter, it was the Indomitable Lions who asserted their authority from the opening exchanges and dominated large spells of the contest.
Cameroon took the lead in the first half through Tchamad, whose composed finish gave his side a deserved advantage heading into the break.
The Central Africans continued to press after the restart and were rewarded when Kofane doubled the lead in the second half, putting Cameroon firmly in control of the tie.
South Africa mounted a late push and pulled a goal back in the 88th minute through Evidence Makgopa, but the effort proved too little, too late, as Cameroon held on to seal qualification.
The victory sends Cameroon into the next round of the tournament, while South Africa bow out of the competition, bringing an end to their hopes of lifting the continental title.
