Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has given insight into the atmosphere within the Nigerian camp following their semi-final defeat to Morocco at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Nigeria’s hopes of reaching the final were dashed after the loss to the Atlas Lions, consigning the Super Eagles to the third-place playoff against Egypt scheduled for Saturday.
Speaking during the pre-match press conference ahead of the losers’ final, Chelle admitted his disappointment at missing out on the title clash but stressed that the team remains focused and motivated.
“To be honest with you, I’m disappointed to be here. I had great ambitions for this tournament,” the France-born coach said.
Chelle revealed that efforts have been intensified within the camp to raise the morale of the players after the setback, highlighting the unity and mutual encouragement between the squad and technical crew.
“After we lost to Morocco, I told my players to keep their heads up because they had a great tournament,” he added.
According to the Super Eagles boss, the encouragement has been reciprocal as the team prepares for the clash against Egypt.
“My players have also told me to do the same as we focus on Saturday’s game,” Chelle concluded.
Nigeria will face Egypt in the third-place playoff as they seek to end their AFCON 2025 campaign on a positive note.
