AFCON 2025: Decision Day For Guinea As CAF Storm The Country
Sampson Adedeji
The hope of Guinea staging the 2025 African Cup of Nations or losing the hosting right may likely be decided in no distant future as the inspection team of the African soccer ruling body stormed the country, BSNsports.com.ng understands.
Guinea was given the hosting right in 2014 under the presidency of Issa Hayatou then the participating countries were 16 but afterwards has since increased to 24 which makes things difficult for a country like Guinea to meet the standard requirement in terms of facilities.
A few months ago, rumour emanated that Nigeria and the Benin Republic are ready to take over the competition from Guinea as co-hosts but Guinea Sports Minister quickly debunked the rumour.
"The right to organise the African Cup of Nations in 2025, the flagship competition of our continent was granted to you in 2014.
"You know that our inspection team visited your country between June 10-15, 2022 and based on its observations during the visit, it drafted a detailed report to the CAF Executive Committee the competent body to decided on granting, withdrawal and programming of the organization of AFCON.
"Following our numerous telephone exchanges and on the decision of the CAF Executive Committee which took note of this report, a CAF delegation will be sent to you ( Guinea) to deliver an important message to the highest authority of the country concerning the organisation of AFCON," the CAF statements read.
Guinea Football Federation has also confirmed the receipt of the CAF information.
