A delegation from the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is currently in Morocco to assess and review the security systems put in place by the country’s General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The visit forms part of a broader security cooperation initiative, with the FBI delegation examining Morocco’s operational frameworks, surveillance infrastructure, crowd-control mechanisms and inter-agency coordination for major international sporting events.

Morocco is hosting the 2025 AFCON across multiple cities, making security preparedness a critical component of the tournament’s planning.

Officials from Morocco’s DGSN are expected to share best practices and lessons drawn from previous high-profile events hosted by the North African nation, including continental and international football competitions.

The visit is also significant in the context of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which the United States will co-host alongside Canada and Mexico.

With just over a year to go until the tournament, the FBI’s engagement in Morocco is seen as part of efforts to study proven security models for large-scale sporting events that involve millions of spectators and draw global attention.
