The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau, was among notable football dignitaries in the stands as Algeria opened their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a commanding 3-0 victory over Sudan, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Gusau was joined by French football icon Zinedine Zidane and Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe to witness a historic moment as Luca Zidane made his Africa Cup of Nations debut for Algeria.

The spotlight was firmly on Luca, the son of the former France and Real Madrid legend, as he featured in goal for Les Verts in the Group E encounter. 

The goalkeeper marked his AFCON bow with a composed performance, keeping a clean sheet as Algeria asserted their dominance throughout the contest.

Algeria wasted little time in stamping their authority on the match, controlling possession and creating numerous scoring opportunities against a Sudanese side that struggled to cope with the North Africans’ pace and technical quality.

The comprehensive win underlined Algeria’s status as one of the tournament favourites and provided an ideal start to their quest for continental glory.

The presence of high-profile figures such as Gusau, Zidane and Motsepe added further prestige to the fixture, highlighting the global appeal of the Africa Cup of Nations and the significance of Luca Zidane’s emergence on the African football stage.
