AFCON 2025: Lot of Work To Be Done Behind The Scenes Before We Face Morocco – Chelle
Sampson Adedeji
Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle has acknowledged that significant preparation is required behind the scenes ahead of Nigeria’s semi-final clash with host nation Morocco at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Nigeria will take on the Atlas Lions in a highly anticipated semi-final encounter as the Super Eagles aim to reach the AFCON final for the second consecutive time.
The fixture is expected to be a stern test for Chelle’s side, given Morocco’s quality and the advantage of playing on home soil.
Speaking ahead of the game, Chelle praised the strength of the Moroccan team while noting the unique pressure that comes with being tournament hosts.
“Morocco is a strong team. It’s not easy being the host country because there’s a lot of pressure,” Chelle said. “But there is a lot of hard work going on behind the scenes.”
The Nigerian coach also reserved special praise for his opposite number, Walid Regragui, and the depth of talent in the Moroccan squad.
“Their coach is very good and they have good players. All I hope is that we will witness a great match and that the best team will win,” he added.
Chelle further urged critics to appreciate the challenges faced by national team coaches, particularly at major tournaments.
“I often hear people say, ‘Yes, but Walid Regragui…’ but you have to try and put yourself in the shoes of a national team coach,” he concluded.
The semi-final showdown between Nigeria and Morocco is expected to draw massive attention as both sides battle for a place in the AFCON 2025 final.
