Algeria got their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations campaign off to a perfect start on Wednesday, cruising to a 3-0 victory over Sudan in Group E, thanks to a brace from talisman Riyad Mahrez.
The Al Ahli Saudi star wasted no time asserting his influence, opening the scoring inside the second minute and setting the tone for Les Verts.
Sudan were reduced to 10 men in the first half, a setback that Algeria capitalized on to control the match.
Mahrez added his second goal just after the hour mark, before substitute Ibrahim Maza sealed the win with a late strike, ensuring Algeria collected maximum points in their opening group fixture.
The victory sends a clear message that Algeria, one of the tournament favorites, are serious contenders for the title in Morocco.
