British-Nigerian artist Yinka Ilori is the creative mind behind the Man of the Match award for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Ilori, who is widely celebrated for his bold use of colour, patterns and contemporary African-inspired designs, was commissioned by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to produce the unique award presented to standout players at the tournament.

The designer, born in London to Nigerian parents, has built an international reputation through his work across architecture, furniture, public installations and product design, often blending modern aesthetics with traditional African motifs.

Speaking on the inspiration behind the AFCON 2025 Man of the Match award, Ilori explained that the design reflects African creativity, resilience and excellence, values that align with the spirit of the continent’s biggest football competition.

CAF’s decision to partner with Ilori underscores its commitment to celebrating African culture and creativity alongside football, as the AFCON continues to position itself not just as a sporting event, but also as a cultural showcase.

The Man of the Match award has already attracted attention at the ongoing tournament, with fans and players praising its distinctive look, which sets it apart from conventional individual honours in international football.
