Legendary Moroccan footballer Mustapha Hadji has drawn a comparison between the current Moroccan national team and Nigeria's former Super Eagles squad in terms of player quality, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

As Morocco prepares to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Hadji believes it will be a tough challenge for any team to face the Atlas Lions on home soil. He also acknowledged the competitive threat posed by Nigeria and other top African teams.

"What’s happening in our country is incredible; we have outstanding footballers all across Europe," Hadji said.

"I compare Morocco to Nigeria a few years ago. I wish we had the option to select more than 40 players, which would be a huge benefit for the nation."

"It’s always tough to predict. We have great footballing nations today in Africa, such as Egypt, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Algeria, Tunisia although they’re not necessarily seeded and even Mali. There are plenty of strong teams in Africa."

Hadji added, "Ultimately, it all depends on form. We’re a year away from the tournament, so much will depend on the squad, the condition of the players, whether they’re fit, and whether they’re regular starters for their clubs. We’ll have to keep an eye on all players throughout the season."

Despite the uncertainty, Hadji firmly believes it will be challenging for other teams to compete with Morocco on its home turf.

"We have a very good team," he concluded.
