A native doctor who allegedly promised to secure Mali’s victory at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco after collecting a sum of €33,500 has been arrested, reports indicate, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The individual reportedly assured associates and backers that the Eagles of Mali would emerge champions of the continental showpiece through spiritual means.

However, Mali’s AFCON campaign ended in disappointment after they were knocked out at the quarter-final stage following a 1–0 defeat to defending champions Senegal.

Mali’s run in Morocco was largely underwhelming, as the team failed to win a single match within regulation time throughout the tournament, raising questions about their overall performance despite high expectations.

Following Mali’s elimination, authorities moved in to arrest the native doctor over allegations of fraud and false representation, after the promised outcome failed to materialise.

The incident has sparked widespread reactions across social media, with many football fans describing the episode as another reminder that success on the pitch is determined by preparation, tactics and performance rather than supernatural assurances.
