AFCON 2025: Nigeria Shifts Camp Venue, Reschedules Arrival Date
By Admin
The Super Eagles have modified their pre-tournament plans for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations following a new FIFA directive on player release dates, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Nigeria had initially scheduled the start of its AFCON training camp for December 10. However, FIFA has formally notified national associations that clubs are only mandated to release players from December 15. In line with the updated regulation, the Super Eagles will now open camp on December 14, allowing the coaching staff a narrow window to assemble the squad before the tournament kicks off.
The change in schedule has also affected the team’s choice of training location. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has scrapped the earlier plan to camp in Egypt. Instead, the Super Eagles will now conduct their final preparations in Morocco, the host nation for AFCON 2025. The new base is expected to provide immediate access to match facilities and reduce travel demands ahead of the competition.
The adjustment comes as national teams across Africa grapple with limited preparation time due to the revised global release guidelines.
Super Eagles, three times African champions are one of the favourites to win the 2025 African Nations Cup in Morocco. Nigeria finished as runners-up in the 2023 AFCON after losing 1-2 to the host, Cote D'ivoire in the final.
