AFCON 2025: Senegalese Players Face Reduced Bonuses Even If They Lift Trophy

With just over two months before the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations kicks off in Morocco, Senegal’s provisional budget has revealed a sharp cut in the bonuses earmarked for the Teranga Lions and the official delegation, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

According to exclusive details published by Score 221 Magazine, the final victory bonus has been slashed by half. 

Should Senegal triumph in Rabat, each member of the delegation will pocket 20 million CFA francs (about $32,300).

This is a significant reduction compared to the 50 million CFA francs (around $75,000) plus land gifts awarded after their historic 2022 triumph in Cameroon. 

The new bonus structure is, in fact, identical to what the players received in 2019 when they finished runners-up to Algeria.

The Senegalese government has allocated a total budget of 5.9 billion CFA francs for the Morocco 2025 campaign far lower than the 14 billion CFA francs provided for the 2023 tournament in Côte d’Ivoire. More than half of the current budget (3.3 billion CFA francs) is reserved for player and staff bonuses.

Despite the financial cuts, the target remains unchanged: head coach Pape Thiaw has been tasked with nothing less than delivering the AFCON trophy back to Dakar.
