AFCON 2025: Six Rising Stars Ready To Make Their Mark In Morocco

As Morocco prepares to host the Africa Cup of Nations from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026, attention will not only be on the continent’s established stars but also on a new generation of emerging talents poised to make a major impact on Africa’s biggest football stage, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Among the young players expected to draw interest are Senegal’s Lamine Camara and Ibrahim Mbaye, Côte d’Ivoire’s Oumar Diakité, Algeria’s Ibrahim Maza, Cameroon’s Christian Michel Kofane, and DR Congo’s Noah Sadiki. All six have either already featured at senior international level or are on the brink of doing so, and each arrives with growing reputations built on strong club and international performances.

Lamine Camara (Senegal, Midfielder, 21)

Already a key figure in Senegal’s midfield, Camara has demonstrated maturity beyond his years. The AS Monaco regular scored at the last AFCON and was named CAF Young Player of the Year in 2024. Known for his energy, tactical awareness and composure in possession, he plays a central role in dictating tempo for the Teranga Lions.

Having previously lifted the U-20 AFCON and the African Nations Championship (CHAN), Camara now targets continental success at senior level after Senegal’s disappointing round-of-16 exit at the last tournament.

AFCON impact: In Group D, which includes DR Congo, Benin and Botswana, Camara’s defensive discipline and forward thrust will be vital for Senegal’s ambitions, even alongside more experienced stars.

Ibrahim Mbaye (Senegal, Forward, 17)

One of the youngest players at the tournament, Mbaye is being carefully introduced to elite football at Paris Saint-Germain. He has already featured in major fixtures, including a UEFA Champions League victory over Barcelona.

After switching allegiance from France, Mbaye made his senior Senegal debut last month and quickly became the nation’s youngest-ever goalscorer. His pace, dribbling ability and clinical finishing have marked him as one of Africa’s most exciting teenage prospects.

Oumar Diakité (Côte d’Ivoire, Forward, 21)

Currently in strong form at Cercle Brugge, the forward will be expected to play a significant role as the defending champions look to retain their title.

Ibrahim Maza (Algeria, Forward, 20)

The Bayer Leverkusen attacker opted to represent Algeria at senior level and brings creativity, flair and composure to the Desert Foxes’ attack. Comfortable operating between the lines, Maza offers both goals and invention.

AFCON impact: In a competitive Group E featuring Burkina Faso, Equatorial Guinea and Sudan, Maza’s technical quality could be crucial in Algeria’s push for top spot.

Christian Michel Kofane (Cameroon, Forward, 19)

Enjoying a breakout season at Bayer Leverkusen, Kofane has impressed with his physical presence, intelligence and work rate. Although his senior international debut was delayed due to club commitments, he is now available and expected to feature prominently.

Nicknamed “the next Eto’o” by club colleague Edmond Tapsoba, Kofane arrives with high expectations as Cameroon seek attacking inspiration.

AFCON impact: In Group F, his movement and link-up play could be key as Cameroon face strong opposition including Côte d’Ivoire and Gabon.

Noah Sadiki (DR Congo, Midfielder, 20)

Sunderland midfielder Sadiki has earned plaudits for his calmness under pressure and tactical discipline. Already capped by DR Congo, he provides balance and control in midfield and is regarded as a cornerstone of the Leopards’ next generation.

AFCON impact: In a challenging Group D, Sadiki’s ability to control possession and disrupt opposition play will be vital as DR Congo aim for progression.
