Sampson Adedeji
South Africa have secured qualification for the Round of 16 at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations following a hard-fought victory over Zimbabwe on Monday, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The Bafana Bafana, champions of the tournament in 1996, edged the Warriors of Zimbabwe 3–2 in their final group match to finish the group stage with six points.
The win confirmed South Africa’s progression alongside Egypt, who played out a goalless draw with Angola in the other group fixture.
Egypt topped the group, while South Africa finished second to seal their place in the knockout phase of the competition.
For Angola and Zimbabwe, the results marked the end of their AFCON 2025 campaign, as both sides failed to accumulate enough points to advance beyond the group stage.
South Africa will now turn their attention to the Round of 16, where they will hope to build on their momentum as the tournament enters its decisive phase.
