AFCON 2025: Super Eagles Still Get N730 Million Pledge From Rabiu Despite Semi-Final Defeat

The Chairman and Founder of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu, has confirmed that he will honour the $500,000 (N730 Million) incentive he pledged to the Super Eagles, despite the team’s semi-final defeat to Morocco at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.

Rabiu had earlier announced via social media that the players would receive $500,000 for winning their semi-final match, with additional bonuses of $50,000 for each goal scored. He also promised a further $1 million reward, plus $100,000 per goal, should the team go on to win the final.

However, the Super Eagles’ hopes of reaching the final were dashed following a 4–2 penalty shootout loss to hosts Morocco, after Samuel Chukwueze and Bruno Onyemaechi missed their spot-kicks.

Despite the setback, Rabiu took to Facebook shortly after the match to confirm that he would still fulfil the $500,000 pledge, praising the players for their courage, commitment, and spirited performance.

Commending the team’s effort, Rabiu noted that although the desired outcome was not achieved, the Super Eagles’ display had made Nigerians proud. He described the players’ dedication, unity, and passion as worthy of recognition and celebration.

“As a token of appreciation for your remarkable journey and effort, I am still going ahead to fulfil the pledge of $500,000,” Rabiu stated. “This is in recognition of your hard work, dedication, and the joy you have brought to our nation.”

The Super Eagles will return to action on Saturday when they face Egypt in the third-place playoff.

Rabiu, a prominent businessman and philanthropist, is among Nigeria’s wealthiest individuals, with Forbes estimating his net worth at $7.6 billion as of 2025.
