AFCON 2025: Tella Vows To Fight For Super Eagles Spot
Sampson Adedeji
Bayer Leverkusen winger Nathan Tella has expressed his determination to fight for a place in the Super Eagles squad ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Tella, who missed the 2023 edition in Côte d’Ivoire where Nigeria finished as runners-up, admitted that breaking into the squad will not be easy but insists he is ready for the challenge.
“To even be selected, I need to show what I can do at club level. I have to take myself to the next step because playing for Nigeria is not just about being handed a shirt,” Tella told Olympic.
“You have to earn it, work hard for it, and once you get in, the goal is to stay in. There’s no better feeling, no bigger achievement than representing your country.”
Reflecting on Nigeria’s strong run in Côte d’Ivoire, the former Southampton star revealed that watching his teammates made him even more determined.
“Missing out on AFCON last year was tough. My first aim now is to make the squad for AFCON 2025. I saw how well the boys performed, and although the final was unfortunate, it made me proud. That motivated me even more,” he added.
Nigeria has been drawn in Group B alongside Uganda, Tanzania, and Tunisia.
