AFCON 2025: Winning AFCON Is Not Easy – Moroccan Coach

Morocco head coach Walid Regragui has admitted that winning the Africa Cup of Nations is a difficult task following his team’s unexpected draw against Mali, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Atlas Lions, who are hosting the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, were held to a 1-1 draw by the Eagles of Mali on Friday in their second Group match, a result that sparked reactions among fans and analysts.

Speaking after the game, Regragui defended his players, insisting they gave their best despite the intense pressure that comes with being tournament favourites and hosts.

 “There should be no doubt. The players are under enormous pressure. If we start complaining after every match, it’s going to be difficult,” Regragui said.

The Moroccan tactician further stressed the competitiveness of the tournament, noting that reputation alone does not guarantee success at the AFCON.

 “You don’t win an AFCON easily,” he added.

Despite the draw, Morocco remain in a strong position in their group and will look to secure qualification to the knockout stage when they return to action in their next fixture.
