Sami Trabelsi has resigned as head coach of the Tunisia national team following the Carthage Eagles’ early exit from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Tunisia were eliminated on Saturday after losing 3–2 on penalties to Mali, bringing a disappointing end to their AFCON campaign.

The North Africans failed to live up to expectations in the tournament, despite arriving in Morocco with an impressive defensive record.

Trabelsi’s departure comes as a surprise given Tunisia’s recent success, having qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup without conceding a single goal.

However, their underwhelming performances at AFCON have raised concerns, ultimately leading to the coach’s decision to step down.

The Tunisia Football Federation is expected to announce an interim coach in the coming days as it begins the search for a permanent replacement ahead of upcoming international fixtures.
