Former Ivorian international Yaya Toure has strongly denied making any comments on the controversial final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations between Morocco and Senegal, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Reports circulating in sections of the media on Tuesday claimed that the former Manchester City midfielder had backed Senegal’s approach during the final, including the conduct of head coach Pape Thiaw.

However, Toure has moved swiftly to dismiss the claims, describing the reports as false and misleading.

Taking to his official social media handle, the former Barcelona and Manchester City star urged the public to disregard the statements attributed to him.

“There are some quotes about the AFCON final that are circulating online and being attributed to me,” Toure wrote.

“To be very clear, I have not done any interviews or spoken to anyone about the final, so those quotes are not from me and should not be attributed to me.”

The AFCON 2025 final has continued to generate widespread debate and controversy across Africa and beyond, with several former players and football stakeholders weighing in on the events that unfolded during the match.

Toure’s clarification now adds to the growing list of reactions and rebuttals surrounding the aftermath of the tournament’s showpiece game.
