Sampson Adedeji

Morocco head coach Walid Regragui has called up Raja Casablanca defender Youssef Belammari to replace the injured Romain Saïss at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Saïss was forced to withdraw from the tournament after sustaining an injury during Morocco’s opening group game against Comoros, ruling the experienced defender out of the rest of the competition.

In response, Regragui moved quickly to draft in 27-year-old Belammari, who has been impressive for Raja Casablanca and is highly regarded by the national team coach.

The Morocco boss has long admired Belammari’s qualities and has increasingly included him in national team call-ups in recent times, a move that underlines his growing importance within the squad.

Belammari is expected to provide depth and competition in Morocco’s defensive line as the Atlas Lions continue their quest for continental glory on home soil.
