Uganda has recalled legendary goalkeeper Dennis Onyango to its national team squad ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, marking a remarkable return for one of the continent’s most decorated shot-stoppers.
The Mamelodi Sundowns icon, who is now 40 years old, has been invited back to the Cranes as they prepare for the tournament in Morocco.
Onyango’s inclusion is seen as a major boost to Uganda’s squad, bringing vast experience and leadership to the team.
A former Africa Cup of Nations winner with South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions League and a long-time cornerstone for club and country, Onyango’s recall underlines the technical crew’s desire for stability and composure in goal.
If he features at the finals, Onyango could become the oldest player at the 2025 AFCON, further cementing his legendary status in African football.
Uganda are among the teams that will face Nigeria’s Super Eagles in the group stage, setting up a fascinating contest between experience and youthful energy.
