The Confederation of African Football (CAF) will officially hand over the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) flag to Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda following the conclusion of the 2025 tournament final, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The symbolic ceremony will mark the formal transition of hosting rights to the three East African nations, who will jointly stage the 2027 edition of Africa’s flagship football competition.

CAF’s decision represents a historic moment for the East African region, as it will be the first time Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda collaborate to host the continent’s biggest football event. 

The handover signifies the start of full-scale preparations as the host nations move into the spotlight ahead of the tournament.

AFCON 2027 is expected to provide an opportunity for East Africa to showcase its culture, hospitality, football passion and infrastructure to the rest of the continent and the global football community.
