Sampson Adedeji
Kenya has officially staked its claim to host both the opening match and final of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations as competition intensifies among the three PAMOJA co-hosts, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The country’s Local Organising Committee made its request while appearing before the National Assembly’s Select Committee on Regional Integration.
The committee said the new 60,000-capacity Raila Odinga International Stadium is 95 per cent complete, while Kenya’s overall preparations for the tournament are estimated at 80 per cent.
Kenya will co-host AFCON 2027 alongside Tanzania and Uganda, with all three countries competing to secure the tournament’s most prestigious fixtures.
The final decision on the venues for the opening game and final will be made by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The 2027 AFCON will be the first edition to be jointly hosted by three East African nations
