AFCON 2027: Shape In Or Ship Out, CAF Issues Strong Warning To Kenya

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has issued a stern warning to Kenya over its role as a co-host of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), as concerns grow over the country’s preparedness, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

According to reports, CAF has instructed Kenya to formally confirm its commitment to hosting the continental showpiece by paying a mandatory hosting fee of $30 million. 

The directive is seen as part of CAF’s efforts to ensure that all designated host nations meet the financial and infrastructural requirements well ahead of the tournament.

Kenya is expected to co-host the 2027 AFCON alongside Uganda and Tanzania under the East African joint bid, a historic arrangement aimed at expanding football development across the region.

However, CAF has made it clear that failure by Kenya to meet the financial obligation within the stipulated timeframe could jeopardize its hosting rights.

 Such a development could force the continental body to review the current hosting arrangement, potentially altering the structure of the tournament.

The warning underscores CAF’s growing insistence on strict compliance with hosting requirements, as the organization seeks to avoid last-minute disruptions that have plagued previous editions of the competition.

With preparations already underway across the three nations, attention will now turn to Kenya’s response as the deadline approaches, with stakeholders hoping for a swift resolution to keep the 2027 AFCON plans on track.
