AFCON 2027: Uganda Completes Stadium, Training Pitches

Uganda has officially completed the construction of the 20,000-capacity Hoima City Stadium and the 2,000-capacity Hoima City Arena ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The East African nation, which will co-host the continental showpiece with Kenya and Tanzania, invested approximately $130 million in the state-of-the-art facilities.

The new stadium is expected to serve as one of the main venues for AFCON 2027, while the arena and adjoining training pitches will provide vital infrastructure for participating teams.

According to Uganda’s Ministry of Sports, the completion marks a major milestone in the country’s AFCON readiness plan and demonstrates its commitment to hosting a world-class tournament.

The Hoima City Stadium is equipped with modern amenities, including VIP stands, media facilities, floodlights, and player recovery centers, aligning with CAF standards for international competitions.

The joint East African AFCON in 2027 will be the first time the tournament is hosted by three nations, marking a historic moment for the region’s football development.
