Eritrea have secured qualification for the group stage of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers after overcoming Eswatini with a 2-1 victory in the second leg, sealing a 4-1 aggregate triumph, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The result marks a significant milestone for Eritrean football, coming nearly 19 years after their last appearance in the preliminary round of the continental competition.

Showing resilience and improved cohesion across both legs, Eritrea proved too strong for their Southern African opponents.

Heading into the decisive fixture with a comfortable advantage from the first leg, Eritrea maintained control and composure to complete the job, limiting Eswatini’s chances while capitalizing on key moments in the match.

The victory not only ensures progression but also signals a potential resurgence for the East African nation, whose presence has been limited in recent AFCON qualification cycles.

Eritrea will now look ahead to the group stage, where sterner tests await as they aim to continue their impressive return to continental football.
