AFCON 2028: Lesotho FA Joins South Africa Bid

The Lesotho Football Association (LEFA), in collaboration with the country’s Ministry of Sports, has formally declared its intention to join South Africa’s bid to host the 2028 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), BSNSports.com.ng reports.

In an official letter addressed to the South African Ministry of Sports, LEFA confirmed Lesotho’s readiness to be part of a joint hosting arrangement, signaling regional support for South Africa’s ambition to stage the continent’s flagship football tournament.

The move further strengthens the Southern African bloc behind the bid, with Botswana also having earlier confirmed its decision to partner with South Africa in the proposed multi-nation hosting plan.

The joint bid strategy is expected to focus on shared infrastructure, logistics, and regional cooperation, in line with the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) growing openness to co-hosting models for major tournaments.

With momentum building around the Southern African proposal, attention now turns to CAF’s selection process, as multiple countries across the continent are expected to submit competing bids for the right to host AFCON 2028.
