Sampson Adedeji
Morocco has emerged as a leading candidate to host the 2028 Africa Cup of Nations, following deliberations expected at a meeting of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Executive Committee scheduled for Sunday, ahead of the AFCON final, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
According to indications from within CAF circles, the North African nation’s strong infrastructural profile and recent experience in staging major continental tournaments have positioned it favourably in the race to host the 2028 edition of Africa’s flagship football competition.
The Executive Committee meeting is expected to review several strategic issues, including future tournament hosting rights, with AFCON 2028 high on the agenda.
While no official announcement has been made, Morocco’s growing reputation as a reliable host has placed it at the forefront of discussions.
Morocco has hosted or is set to host multiple CAF competitions in recent years, a factor believed to have strengthened its candidacy.
Any final decision on the 2028 hosting rights will be subject to CAF’s established bidding and approval processes. CAF is expected to provide further clarity after the conclusion of the Executive Committee meeting.
