AFCON Final: 18 Senegalese Arrested Fans Begin Hunger Strike

Eighteen Senegalese football supporters arrested in connection with disturbances during the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco have commenced a hunger strike while in detention, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The fans were apprehended following incidents of unruly behaviour and vandalism that erupted during and after the AFCON final between Senegal and the host nation Morocco.

The match, which drew massive crowds and intense emotions, was marred by clashes that led to property damage and security interventions around the stadium and adjoining areas.

According to reports, the detained supporters are protesting the conditions of their detention and what they describe as delays in the judicial process.

Legal proceedings against them are currently ongoing, with the court adjourning the case to February 12 for further hearing. Authorities in Morocco have maintained that due process will be followed, stressing that the arrests were based on concrete evidence linked to the disturbances during the final.

Meanwhile, the development has drawn attention from both Senegalese officials and football authorities, who are reportedly closely monitoring the situation.
