Newly crowned African champions, the Teranga Lions of Senegal, are still waiting to receive their prize money for winning the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Senegal emerged champions after defeating hosts Morocco in a controversial final, but weeks after lifting the trophy, the Senegalese Football Federation is yet to receive the financial rewards attached to the title from the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
President of the Senegal Football Federation, Abdoulaye Fall, confirmed that the federation is still awaiting the release of the funds, stressing the importance of the prize money to the country’s football administration and operations.
“This is what allowed us to have the resources to operate and also to manage certain administrative activities,” Fall said.
He added that the federation is counting on the AFCON prize money and other CAF-related funds to meet its financial obligations.
“But as soon as the resources are available, we will do everything we can to honor our commitments. It was also important for people to know that we didn't have enough resources to cover all our activities,” he stated.
Senegal claimed their latest continental title after a tense and controversial AFCON final, further cementing their status as one of Africa’s dominant football nations, but the delay in the release of prize money has raised concerns within the federation about planning and financial stability going forward.
