Equatorial Guinea striker Emilio Nsue has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 36, bringing an end to a career spanning more than two decades, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Nsue, who is Equatorial Guinea’s all-time leading goalscorer, enjoyed one of the most memorable individual campaigns at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire.

The forward finished the tournament as the competition’s top scorer with five goals, helping Equatorial Guinea reach the knockout stages.

His international career saw him become a key figure for the national team, establishing himself as the country’s record goalscorer.

After more than 20 years in the game, Nsue has now decided to call time on his playing career, leaving behind a significant legacy in Equatorial Guinean football.

His retirement marks the end of an era for one of the most prolific players in the history of Equatorial Guinea.
