AFCON Q: Moshood Abiola Stadium Host Nigeria versus Guinea, Guinea Bissau ties

The Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja is set to host the 1st leg of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double-header between Nigeria and Guinea-Bissau, reports BSNSports.com.ng.

After it's ban owing to pitch invasion by irate fans after the Qatar World Cup qualifying game against Black Stars of Ghana, the three times AFCON kings Super Eagles confront the Djurtus on Friday, March 24 while the reverse fixture is fixed for Monday, March 27, at the Estádio 24 de Setembro in Bissau.

The playing turf of the stadium has been put in top shape for the top-of-the-table fixture by the groundsmen on site.

Having garnered 6 points from its previous two matches, against Sierra Leone and Sao Tome and Principe, victory in the clashes will see Nigeria soar to 12 points and stay comfortably on top of Group A.

The last time both teams met was in the group stage of the 2021 AFCON tournament in Cameroon.

Goals from Umar Sadiq and William Troost-Ekong gave the Super Eagles victory at the Roumdé Adjia Stadium in Garoua.

Meanwhile, the U23 team tagged the Olympic Eagles will host the Young Syli National of Guinea in the first leg of the qualifier on Wednesday at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, with the reverse fixture billed for Rabat, Morocco five days later.

Guinea reached the final round of the qualifiers without kicking a ball after their opponent, Uganda pulled out.

The Olympic Eagles defeated the Serengeti Boys of Tanzania 3-1 on aggregate to book a date with Guinea.

The winner between Nigeria and Guinea over the two legs of the qualifier will pick the ticket for the U-23 AFCON billed for Morocco in November 2023.
