AFCON U17: Bribery Allegations Rock DR Congo Camp

The Democratic Republic of Congo’s U17 national team has been thrown into controversy at the ongoing U17 Africa Cup of Nations following allegations that members of the technical crew demanded money from players in exchange for selection into the squad, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

What was expected to be a memorable tournament for the Young Leopards has now been overshadowed by accusations of corruption, favouritism and exploitation involving young players hoping to represent their country on the continental stage.

The scandal comes at a difficult moment for DR Congo, who began their AFCON U17 campaign with a disappointing defeat to Uganda despite entering the competition with high expectations after a strong performance during the UNIFFAC qualifiers.

Concerns intensified after several influential players who featured prominently during the qualification series were omitted from the final squad. 

Among those left out was team captain Aristote Bokeya, a decision that has raised questions among supporters and football observers in the country.

The allegations have sparked widespread reactions across Congolese football circles, with many calling for a thorough investigation into the matter to protect the integrity of youth football development in the country.
