AFCON U20: Brazilian Coach Dumps Egypt

Barely 3 months to the start of the U20 African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, the coach of the Egypt U20 team, Rogerio Micale, has dumped the team, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Egypt, alongside Nigeria and others, are among the 12 countries who booked their spots in the competition. 

In a statement, Micale revealed that the Egypt Football Association approached him weeks ago with a request to reduce his contract due to financial difficulties. 

Despite his agreement to a reduction starting in 2025, the EFA demanded further cuts, ultimately leading to the termination of the agreement, according to Micale.

Micale’s tenure, which began in August 2022, saw notable achievements including leading Egypt to the semifinals of the 2024 Paris Olympics and securing qualification for the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025.
