AFCON U20: Zubairu Acknowledges Nigerians’ Disappointment Despite Progress
Sampson Adedeji
Flying Eagles head coach Aliyu Zubairu has acknowledged the disappointment felt by Nigerian fans following the team’s 2-2 draw with Kenya, despite securing qualification to the next round of the U20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The Nigerian team had to come from behind twice to salvage a point in their final group-stage match against the Rising Stars of Kenya.
Speaking at a post-match press conference, Zubairu admitted the match was a tough contest and explained the motivation behind the Kenyan performance.
“It was not an easy match. Kenya had lost their first two games and were determined not to leave the tournament without a win. That made the game very difficult. Still, it was a good contest,” he said.
Zubairu also addressed the concerns of fans regarding the result.
“I understand why many Nigerians might be disappointed, especially considering the opponent. But the most important thing is that we’ve qualified for the quarter-finals, and that objective has been achieved,” he added.
