Sampson Adedeji
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has approved a comprehensive welfare package for referees and assistant referees officiating at the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Under the arrangement, match officials will be entitled to economy-class air travel to and from the tournament venue. CAF will also fully cover accommodation costs for the duration of their official engagement at the competition.
In addition, referees and assistant referees will receive a daily allowance of US$200 for a maximum period of 20 days, in line with CAF’s operational framework for the tournament.
The decision forms part of CAF’s broader commitment to ensuring adequate welfare, professionalism, and optimal working conditions for match officials during Africa’s flagship football tournament.
The body believes the measures will help officials maintain high standards of officiating throughout the competition.
