The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has ranked Nigeria’s Super Eagles as one of the most decorated countries with the highest number of bronze medals in the history of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), BSNSports.com.ng reports.

According to figures released by CAF, the Super Eagles have won a total of eight bronze medals at the continental showpiece, more than any other nation. Nigeria’s most recent third-place finish came at the 2019 AFCON tournament held in Egypt.

In addition to their bronze medal record, Nigeria also boasts five silver medals in the competition.

This tally places the Super Eagles on the same level as their long-time West African rivals, the Black Stars of Ghana, who also have five runner-up finishes.

The Super Eagles’ latest silver medal was secured at the most recent AFCON edition staged in Côte d’Ivoire, where Nigeria finished second after an impressive run to the final.

The Nigerian side also won three titles in 1980, 1994, and 2013. Nigeria remains one of the most consistent and decorated teams in AFCON history, underlining their status as a major force in African football ahead of the 2025 tournament in Morocco.
